Changing up the look and feel of your home can really change your outlook on life. You may have put a lot of thought into your dream interior or may just have an inspiration. Here are a few quick ways to give your home an entirely new look, while staying within a moderate budget.
Painting a room can make for a dramatic change. Keep it white for a modern and minimalistic look. If you rent and must keep the walls white, then try using an eggshell color or go from a mat finish to a semi-gloss. Or make a slight difference in finish between the walls, trim and molding. Use warm colors, like yellows, tans and oranges to make a homey feel. Use cool colors, such as blues, purples and greys to create a serene atmosphere.
Pillows and Throws
A new couch or easy chairs may not be in your budget, but you may find some great pillows to give a new look to your current furniture. You can find decorative pillows online at stores like Wayfair or just about any big-box store. Try velvet pillows by Soft Surroundings for an elegant touch. If you find some material that you find attractive, it is very easy to create custom pillows. If you do not already know how to sew, look for plans and videos online to learn how.
If you have some special photographs, go get them printed and framed. Standard size frames, such as 5x7”, 8x10” or 16x20” can be found at any craft store. For extra large prints or irregular sizes, consider getting photos printed and adhered to metal or plastic. It gives a modern “frameless frame” look at a cheaper cost than having a large custom frame and matting made.
If you collect something, such as memorabilia, antiques or art objects, get them out of storage and proudly display them. Hang items from walls, display on shelves or tables. Take care not to overcrowd walls or tables. Each item should have good space on all sides, to be clearly seen and enjoyed.
